Application forms from Greenwood Charitable organizations are now being accepted by The Greenwood Improvement Society (TGIS) for funding. Funding is available for projects in the following fields of interest:

  • Children & Families
  • Elderly & Special Care
  • Arts & Culture
  • Libraries & Education
  • Health & Welfare
  • Youth Activities
  • Tourism
  • Heritage, History & Environment
  • Religious organizations if the purpose significantly benefits the community at large.
The closing date for applications is March 31 of the current granting year.

Partners with the Phoenix Foundation

The Community Grants Program at the Phoenix Foundation distributes income from the unrestricted Community Fund. Applications for these funds are reviewed each Spring of each year. The Board of Directors of the Phoenix Foundation is responsible for the overall policies and practices of the Foundation. In considering applications for funding, the Board relies on the recommendations of the Grants Committee and Advisory members serving in the following categories:

  • Animal Welfare
  • Arts and Culture
  • Children and Families
  • Elderly and Special Care
  • Environment
  • Health and Welfare
  • Libraries and Education
  • Social Justice
  • Youth


  • An organization's operational or core expenses.
  • Retroactive funding or any project expenses to incurred prior to the Foundation's decision date.
  • Debt retirement or reserves.
  • Mortgage pay-downs.
  • Conferences, competitions, festivals, symposia, annual events, or travel to/attendance at such events.
  • Fund raising activities.
  • Activities of religious organizations that serve primarily their membership and/or their direct religious purposes.
  • Sabbatical leaves, student exchanges.
  • Amateur sports.
  • School construction (including post-secondary).
  • Publication of books.
  • Support for dissertation research.
  • Computer Labs.
